Block quotations are not surrounded by any quotation marks. For quotations of 50 words or more the following formatting instructions should be followed. The entire block quotation is indented 05 inches the same as the indentation for a new paragraph and is double spaced. O this applies to block quotes in footnotes as well.

O block quotes should be indented an additional 05 on both the left and right. But that is a whole other blog post. Single spacing is required. A citation that follows a block quotation should not begin at the left margin but be intended double spaced and placed below the blockquote.

Indent the entire quote 1 inch from the left margin and double space it even if the rest of your paper is not double spaced. Spacing between capitals rule 61a at 87 88 the bluebook includes a general rule on spacing that among other things applies to court abbreviations you close up all adjacent single capitals there is no space between them dri. But if you begin a new sentence after a citation that new sentence will be two spaces after the citation. The ending citation is included on the last line of the block quotation.

Today well focus just on the latter. In endnotes citation sentences begin one space after a textual proposition. Rhode island which only has one district is dri. A block quote is always used when quoting dialogue between characters as in a play.
